2025 KAPT AWARDS BANQUET RECAP

 The Kentucky Association for Pupil Transportation held its annual awards banquet on Tuesday night June 17, 2025 at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. First Light Safety Products was the Banquet Sponsor for the evening and also served as a Platinum Sponsor of the Summer Conference. Nick Chappell, attending representative, spoke before the prayer and dinner.

Kevin Whitt of Henry County Schools led the evening with the opening prayer before dinner.

The Keynote Speaker of the evening was Clay Dyer. Dyer, 47 is a professional bass fisherman who competes despite being born without arms or legs. He started fishing at age five and competing in tournaments at 15. Dyer has fished in major trails like the Basspro.com Bassmaster Opens, winning local tournaments but not yet a national event. He's appeared on ESPN, Fox, CNN, and other channels. When not fishing, Dyer shares his experiences through motivational speaking for companies, charities, and churches.

The KAPT would like to congratulate the list of winners of this year’s scholarships & awards.
Four -$1,000 scholarships were handed out to the following students:

-Ellie Adams of North Laurel High School in London.
-Delaney Harned of Breckinridge County High School in Hardinsburg.
-David Neal of Barren County High School in Glasgow.
-Sara Welshans of Webster County High School in Dixon.

 The following awards were handed out to transportation representatives from across the state:
DRIVER OF THE YEAR: Dawn Cropenbaker of Newport Independent Schools.
MONITOR OF THE YEAR: Kim Harris of Kenton County Schools.
HEAD TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR: J. J. Reyes of Henry County Schools
SPECIAL NEEDS DRIVER OF THE YEAR: Jennifer Projean of Newport Independent Schools.
OTHER TRANSPORTATION PERSONNEL OF THE YEAR: Ginger Carroll of Shelby County Public Schools.
DRIVER TRAINER OF THE YEAR: Linda Crooks of Bowling Green Independent Schools.
DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR: Cameron Chesser of Spencer County Schools.
ABOVE & BEYOND AWARD: Robin Black of Union County Schools.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: Ricky Courtwright, over 50 years service, Kentucky Department of Education Contractor & former Marion Co. Schools Director, etc.

 KAPT Executive Director John Wyatt presented outgoing President Devonna Driver with a plaque in appreciation for her two years as President of the Kentucky Association for Pupil Transportation.
